copy hard drive
Has anyone else tried to mirror their external drive and had it work. I tried and used "carbon copy" software but when I tried to run kjams the tracks cannot be found on my copy drive, some can be found but not all tracks. Can anyone help. Len

1) your drive 2 must have the exact same layout as drive 1, including the same volume name
2) you MUST dismount BOTH drives after you are done copying, then ONLY mount drive 2
otherwise it will NOT work

Thanks for that Dave.
I now know why it didn't work, when I went to the apple store to get a new drive (I went there cos they were the only shop to stock the drive I had) when I went to pay for it I asked the assistant how to mirror the drive, I told him that I use a database and that database gets tracks from my external drive and then plays them and he told me not to get the same drive cos he had one and he found it to be not as reliable as a lacie, so I asked him will it be an accurate mirror and work the same way as the on I already have and he assured me it. then said I will take the lacie, then the assistant said don't get it here cos if I go to a shop up the road I will save £48 so I did. Now thats an expensive lesson.

did you try my suggestion?
or are you saying the drive itself failed?
did you run disk utility?

err
but you still haven't told me *what* you did different.
was the drive bad and you replaced it?
was the disk structure corrupt and you ran disk utility?
was it that the new drive did not have the same name?
or was it that you had both drives mounted?
