Microphones

Post by Karanight »

I know that this isn't a kJams question but I'm getting a bit desperate and poor into the bargain
I use AKG HT 40 PRO mic's and they're just not up the the job. When I first started KJing I bought a pair of AKG WMS40 Pro UHF mic's and I've still got them, they still sound great and they're capable of taking the odd knock from a drunken singer. My problem is that when I wanted another pair, AKG had stopped making them and replaced them with the AKG HT 40 PRO mic's and they don't last any time at all. I've bought several pairs of these and the problem is getting worse.
What do KJ's on here use and are they hardwearing that sound good.
I'm in the UK and some of the USA kit isn't available

I'm surprised that I didn't get a reply on this post, I thought someone on would use mic's, silly me. I've decided to go with Sure SM 58's and I'll just have to see how it goes.
Thanks to anyone who thought about answering!!

I have been using GTD Audio G-788H 2x800 Channel Diversity UHF Wireless microphone mic system for about a year now. It goes for $220 on Amazon.com.
They aren't Shure mics but they sound good and have held up great after a little tweaking.
They feel solid and have some weight to them. The batteries last me about 2 gigs.
Bang for the buck I love them and would totally recommend them for karaoke.
Obviously if you have the budget for Shure SM58's they are awesome but handing that kind of cash to my late night well lubricated patrons raises my pucker factor to ten! :D

Thanks for that, I've gone for the Shure because I know they'll put up with a lot of abuse. I did look for the GTD Audio G-788H 2x800 Channel Diversity UHF but they’re not available in the UK…or at least I can’t find them

There're Sennheiser, Behringer, Rode, Beyerdynamic, Electro-Voice, JZ Microphones, Audio Technica, Audix, Alto, AKG, ProSound, Electrovoice, available in the UK

I'm looking for a robust wireless system and in my search I've come across this
http://www.voicecouncil.com/review-ales ... e-adaptor/

This would give me the best of both worlds, but, I've read some reviews that say the alesis-miclink is not robust and the reason I'm looking is because I'm sick to death of buying mic's that are not up to idiots dropping them.
I do wonder if they'd treat even an inexpensive electronic item they own the way some treat my mic's

I run some competitions and I need the wireless system just for those

The SM 58s are nice but WAY expensive. I use a cheaper UHF diversity set from AceSonic, but I have the luxury of being able to do many hardware repairs myself. They have plastic shells, which makes for… issues. However, their new units are full metal jacketed, so I suspect they may hold up a bit better. Plus, each unit in the receiver is separate and field replaceable, so their's that.

As a cheaper, out of left field alternative, you could always save the money, get cheaper mics, and use about $40 of the left over cash to get foam puzzle mats to cover your stage area!
