No Fly List
No Fly List
I've had an email from Sunfly saying that the "No fly list is coming to the UK, will this mean I can no longer get these tracks from Tricerasoft? I buy all my tracks this way!
Re: No Fly List
this is not anything i have any knowledge of. It is my understanding that TriceraSoft (the music store that supplies the Sunfly library) is fully compliant with all licensing, so AFAIK, this should not affect you.
Re: No Fly List
Here's a link that makes me believe that there's going to be restrictions in the availability of karaoke tracks http://www.karaokecloud.info/
Re: No Fly List
good find. that's a list of artists, however, not directly related to SunFly
It could be just that SunFly is going thru their library and removing any artists on the no-fly-list so that they too are compliant? I'm not sure.

Re: No Fly List
Hi Fellas,
My name is Gaz and I am a small producer in the UK and I can tell you that the no-fly list is now being enforced by the PRS which we all license through. On July 1, all UK manus have to remove writers/artists on this list for digital download and streaming. Most have already removed the songs or in the process or offering a last chance to buy before the deadline (Zoom).
I would also be very cautious in dealing with Tricerasoft unless you are from Canada! I wanted to put our content on the site to gain access to the US market and after reading several posts on another forum became very concerned..
We don't have the same litigious climate as you do in the US and I have been warned that Tricerasoft is playing fast and loose with licensing rules. They make no mention of who they license through and they put suppliers and software/app developers at risk by delivering unlicensed content to the customer....
Best regards
Gaz
Enclosed is a copy of the email and response I got from Universal Publishing:
Dear Mr. Grannis,
My name is Gazz and I have a small karaoke production in the UK (200 songs and growing). I currently sell our content through http://www.customburn.com for UK customers only. I would appreciate your guidance with regards to putting our content on http://www.tricerasoft.com. I am asking because there seems to be quite a bit of debate over the legality of their licensing scheme. Most of the large karaoke producers like SBI, Sunfly, Mr. Entertainer and Zoom offer their content on the site and it apparently has good reach into the USA.
I understand that the licensing scheme in the USA is much more complicated than the UK, so if Tricerasoft has the ability to cover us under theirs it would make good financial sense and we could benefit from the exposure to the US market. I don't expect specifics on their license with Universal, but it would make me feel much better if I knew that they have one in place for downloads and custom discs.
Thanks for taking the time.
Gazz
Gazz,
Tricerasoft has not obtained licenses to exploit Universal Publishing content in the US. In fact they have advised that they are not selling any content in/to US at all, and that they have geo-gated their site to sell only to consumers in Canada.
You are right to be cautious.

Re: No Fly List
What I have heard is that it's fine (ie: perfectly legal and fully licensed) to buy TriceraSoft tracks even if you live in the US.
Note that this is NOT a forum to discuss legal issues, it is for technical support for kJams.
