The odd cussed disc

Post by ChurchCat »

When I imported all of my cd+g collection into kJams they all ripped without a problem with the exception of two discs

One a special Millennium disc from Sunfly and the other a SoundChoice disc from their "spotlight" series. (SC 8734). These play on the stand alone karaoke machine but the disc does not appear in the sidebar in kJams. I have to physically switch off the external drive to eject the disc.

Now I am not complaining as two discs out of hundreds is no great loss. I am curious though. What could be problem possibly be?

I will post them to you with pleasure.

It seems strange to me that all of the others work but not these couple.

PM/Email the address that you would like me to sent them to.

I have put them in the post. They should reach you in about ten days. It would have been sooner but we have a postal strike on at the moment.

There has been a postal strike here. Even so I would have thought that they should be there by now.

Ah well.

*Curls up in catbasket and continues to wait*

copy protection

Post by dave »

Okay here's my find:

the Sound Choice 8734 disc has "MediaCloq" copy protection, which sucks. I can't work around that. Info here, here and here. My advice on that is return the disc, stating that you can not make a backup and that you think that sucks and you're not supporting that. Never buy copy protected discs, period.

the SunFly Promo disc seems to rip and play just fine.

I did hear that SC on occasion used copy protection. It is an old disc and I am not even sure where I bought it from. I will watch out in future though.

Strange about the Sunfly disc. It must be a problem with my optical drive I guess. It won't rip no matter how I try.

Anyway, thanks for your time Dave

Dave,

Do you know if there's a way to know which Sound Choice discs have the copy protection. I've got a few that ripped fine, but I wouldn't want to buy one and get stuck not being able to rip it.
