Microphone Delay Issues

Post by slim05 »

GREAT SOFTWARE!

I'm still having one problem though, even when going directly from the dual wireless mic's i picked up (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BJ ... ss_product) using the unbalanced 1/4 out to 1/8 line in on the mac I have a noticable delay and the mics are quiet even when cranked up full tilt on the wireless receiver and in kJams.

I went out to radio shack and picked up this mixer after another poster suggested it worked well for him: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2102920, this certainly fixed the audio level problem (likely because the wireless mic set I bought aren't preamped), but made the delay much worse...

Does anyone have any idea how I can make this work out? In the microphone help you mention you picked up the dual head wireless mic system but you didn't mention what you ran it through (if anything) before the computer... Would this XLR - USB cable work http://www.soundtech.com/products/home- ... tusbxlr10/ that you mention in the help, or maybe just buying a real mini mixer?

Hope you can help and thanks for the awesome software!

Ideally, you would be running each item to a separate channel in your mixer.

An example could be:

- Wireless Microphone #1 goes to channel 1.
- Wireless Microphone #2 goes to channel 2.
- Perhaps a wired mic for your goes to channel 3.
- Your Laptop / MacBook Pro goes to it's own channel also, perhaps channel 4 through a direct box or to a stereo input (should your mixer have one).

This eliminates running any microphones into your computer.

There may be other ways offered here as to how others run their systems. The suggestion I proposed is how I run mine :-)

Scottie,

Thanks so much, worked perfectly, not sure why I didn't think of that.

Thanks!

that is in fact the recommended setup. never use digital audio for mics.

I went the digital route and ended up getting this:
http://www.amazon.com/Duet-FireWire-Aud ... 362&sr=8-1
Its pricey and perhaps overkill but will take 2 separate XLR inputs coming from your wireless mic receiver, pre-amp put them in your computer optimally through firewire as separate channels. I find that it works very well with minimal delay though occasionally if I am running a lot of audio filters like auto-tune through garage band there can be a delay.

By the way its recommended to use a separate app outside of KJams to handle the mic for anything serious as it has been known to lag in some cases,
