716Uf - tray won't stay closed - Help !

My Plextor 716UF external drive arrived yesterday.
However it's not working.
The drive tray won't stay in. When the tray button is
presses, it just cycles in and then stays out again.
I vacuumed it ( Google search - possible dirt on the tray sensor)
Upgraded the firmware form 1.09 to 1.10 - Mac recognizes the drive
The Add new Hardware Wizard opened when I connected it ( USB) up to a PC this am.
It's 0105 series manufactured Nov 2004 . I did read
that post May 2005 were better ( no details)

No software, but it should play a CD with current
Windows and Mac X OS
( something jamming the the emergency eject ? )
Suggestions ?

Note to self - NEVER EVER buy Computer/electonics
from ebay.

The store has a 48 hr DOA return policy

don't swear off ebay, you can get very good stuff. one bad experience doesn't make the whole thing bad.
