Occasional pause
Re: Occasional pause
in any case, the next update to kJams for Mac specifically disallows app nap, and in fact demands higher CPU time, regardless of whether that box is checked.
Re: Occasional pause
Will try the app nap thing at the weekend (have 2 gigs lined up where it Kjams all the way for them)
Thanks

Re: Occasional pause
FTR, if anyone wants to run Etrecheck and post the data it returns here, I can try to figure out where your system kext conflicts are, and maybe sort out these issues. I had far worse issues after upgrading, and Etrecheck was invaluable in figuring out where the problems were.
Re: Occasional pause
good idea
Re: Occasional pause
app nap disabled, show tomorrow night and Thursday. Will post finding here

Re: Occasional pause
Okay, first, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE get rid of MacKeeper! That program is evil incarnate, does bad things, steals CPU cycles, and provides no useful benefit at all.
(Good luck, though, that program is notoriously difficult to eradicate.)
Second, you do not need com.rosecrux.kjams.plist. It is old. Delete it.
Third, smcFanControl has issues with Yosemite. It is clearly having them on your machine. It certainly should not be listed twice in your login items. Try to uninstall then reinstall if you really need it, or delete it. If you can't get it working properly on 10.10 and need it, there are other alternatives.
Try those things first, and see if it helps.

thank you for the tips, will try those things asap!
Re: Occasional pause
Interesting that you mention smcnfancontrol. I run it too, always at fans full speed when using Kjams, as i was really concerned at the heat that was being generated when doing shows. with SMC my laptop runs a lot cooler than it used to. i updated to their latest version as soon as i installed yosemite and hadn't heard about any issues with it running on yosemite that i was aware of. That said, you may be on to something if a common point is that anyone having issues has this installed. I will uninstall for this weekends shows and see if it helps. Last weekend with the rogue latest, i still had flashing screens and freezing music, although it didn't seem as much as the previous version caused. i had 2 x 4 hour shows to do, and was lucky to have had as little a 4 pauses and maybe a flash in the screen once in every 4 or 5 songs (sometimes two or three times on the one song).
Will try it and let you guys know
Thanks for the great support -- appreciated as always

please use the latest rogue, as it has some bug-mitigation stuff already

Re: Occasional pause
The issues with smcFanControl and Yosemite can be followed on various discussion fora. Some people are having no problem, others are having great difficulty, and have had to uninstall and switch to a different solution.
That said, the first thing I would advise, assuming you have already tried Dave's advice to set "Prevent App Nap", is to reset your SMC. How you do this depends on what type of Mac you have. I'll assume it's not a desktop.
For Mac portables with user-removable batteries (MacBook and most MacBook Pros):
Shut down your Mac.
Disconnect your Mac portable from its MagSafe connector.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Re-install the battery.
Reconnect the MagSafe connector.
Turn your Mac on.
For Mac portables with non-user-removable batteries (MacBook Air and some late 2009 MacBook Pro models):
Shut down your Mac.
Connect the MagSafe power adapter to your Mac and to a power outlet.
On the built-in keyboard (this will not work from an external keyboard), simultaneously press and hold the left shift, control, and option keys while you press the power button. Release all keys at the same time.
Press the power button to start your Mac.
That done, I wouldn't wait for your next work show. Just run a mini show of your own! Plug everything in, and play a few tracks, do whatever you normally do, and see if the issue is still there. If not, then we have perhaps solved the problem. If not, try removing smcFanControl, reboot, reset SMC again, and try again. If the problem is still apparent, there is another issue, and we can go from there. No use waiting until it's do or die!
(FTR, I really don't think this is an App Nap issue, but that won't matter, since it is inherently turned off in the current Rogue and all future versions, anyway.)

Re: Occasional pause
Thanks Guys -- was using 1b68 rogue at the weekend. Just to be sure i had app nap switched off as well
Will try to get some time tonight to reset macbook and run my own mini show.
Thanks again

Re: Occasional pause
Heres another -- simpmech, are you using the internal sound card of the macbook or external? I'm out firewire to an X32 digital mixer for my audio -- that in itself shouldn't be a problem as the desk is handling the bulk of the audio work, but just curious in case you are doing something similar

Re: Occasional pause
Have you tried running direct through the built in sound out to see if it keeps happening? Normally the FW audio should be glitch-less, but it would not be impossible for Yosemite to have introduced issues, or for issues with smcFanControl to pop up on the FW interface. This is because the SMC controls a number of different things, including: failure to recognize add-on hardware or peripherals, failure to wake from sleep, or unexpected sleep.
Also, Behringer's latest drivers for the X32 were from July 2013, so they were not updated for Yosemite, so that too could be an issue. Their USB drivers are a month older, but might not have the same issues. Have you tried running through that port to see if the issue persists?
All these things might be part of the issue. Corrupted SMC settings could cause your machine to lose track of the FW interface, or have "micro-sleeps", resulting in brief hiccups in processing.
That said, it could be any number of other things as well.

Re: Occasional pause
No driver required for OS X for X32 as its Core Audio compliant. all drivers on the website are for PC only
