Adding Tracks To Library

Just talk about kJams stuff with each other, describe things you did that worked, talk about your setup, anything that doesn't fit into the other forums!

Adding Tracks To Library

Post by Karanight »

Is there a way to add songs to the library without having to re-interprate the title, i.e. so that the information like artist and singer and album are in the correct columns

If your song file names on disk are ALREADY in a format that can be interpreted by a template, then you can set that import template in the tags prefs.

I recommend against this because:
1) files on disk usually have names that are in different template formats, and each group must be handled separately, most people will forget to set the tag pref ahead of time for each group
2) the song files do NOT automatically get updated to contain the tags themselves, unless you then manually "push meta data". which means if you rebuild, you will have to go thru the same process all over again

Normally, you import them without the auto-interpretation, then you manually re-interpret, then kJams knows to push the meta data into the files. then, forevermore, if you rebuild your library, the data is pulled automatically and it all "just works", without having to interpret again.

when you buy songs from the built in music stores, they automatically come in with correct meta data

Yes they do but I usually edit them to remove the silence at the beginning and end. I've tried copying the exact way the track comes from Tricerasoft and then pasting it onto the edited track and when I add the track I need to re-interprate the name
(I know there's a pref to skip the silence at the beginning but it doesn't always work and the silence at the end is still there. If a DJ is away from their work station and the song ends there's an embarrassing silence until itunes kicks in. In a perfect world the DJ would be there to skip the silence on but its not always the case (and you can guarantee that its a long silence when the DJ is away)

you can set the trim start and end, which ALWAYS works.

I realise that but I was hoping that there'd be a way to put the tracks into the Library without having to re-interpret them. If there's no way to do this I will continue to do it manually, I'm just lazy.

well yes there is, my first answer describes how to do it. you basically pre-decide how to interpret them and kJams just uses that decision on all subsequent imports.
