I really like that solution. Very inventive. Sometimes low-tech is the easiest solution!
I wonder if you really have to mark out the entire track / partition or would it suffice to just mark out 10% or 25%

several models work
This will come in handy when practicing the more challenging duets (with lots of harmonizing)... we can practice anywhere without a laptop. Forget looking at spec's on the box. They don't bother listing CDG compatibility. However... Actually trying a CDG in several players at various places (pawn sh...

portable DVD player plays karaoke?
saw a guy playing a CD+G on one of those battery powered DVD players with the 6" - 9" built-in screen (15-20 cm) went to consumer electronics store, looked at 10 models, none of them specified "CD+G" or Karaoke (big surprise). Absolutely no surprise: the teenager in the blue shirt had never heard of...

Plextor from UnityElectronics.com
I bought the Plextor PX-708UF from UnityElectronics.com It's in an external enclosure with both USB and Firewire ports and a fan. The face plate is available in a variety of colors. I got the one in "bulk packaging" -- means no glossy package and no manual. It's plug-n-play on the Mac. Plug it in an...

fragmentation
A concern related to the zipping and unzipping of songs on the fly... For the PRO version (if I ever have my own show)... I am concerned about fragmentation developing on my external hard drive (with thousands of songs on it). Defragmenting could take a very long time, and copy drive->drive is known...

minor GUI
minor glitch in the GUI in the main kJams Lite window, in the brushed aluminum section there is sometimes small black text and it sometimes accumulates on top of each other all jumbled up. It's on both sides of the purple Title / Elapsed Time area I think it's the scrolling text from the video windo...

expanding updates
oh... is THAT what happened? I was wondering why I had to install StuffIt Expander.
My kJams Lite is installed in my USER home -> Applications
If I move it to the MAIN applications folder then the updates will work automagicallly? Have to try that next time...

lyrics and authoring
yes, it's irritating when they get the lyrics wrong. Or are you talking about doing a Weird Al-esque spoof ? I'm interested in doing one from scratch... a fun song (IMHO) is Dire Straits' - The Bug which apparently does not yet exist for karaoke. I may have the patience and detail-orientedness to do...
